One of the most famous gypsy jazz songs, Dark eyes / Les Yeux Noirs.
To be able to improvise this song , you also should know how django played.
Also, most of famous gypsy jazz guitarists such as Stochelo Rosenberg, Jimmy Rosenber , Joscho Stephan etc.. play Django’s licks in their improvisation.
If you are not familiar with gypsy jazz style of playing then , take it easy. It took me a year when I learnt this song first time.
Solo
It is written 250 BPM but actual tempo is 125 BPM. It might be quite fast but original version is faster than this.
Also It is good to know the licks below.
Intro is often played as free tempo then when the actual song starts, we use this lick.
By the way, it wasn’t easy to see the fret numbers on the video , so I enlarged the part
Also at from 89th bar, we play like this down pickings , not alternate pickings in the gypsy jazz style of playing. Tips are that you move down your arm, not only your wrist.
Rhythm Guitar and chords
I made 3 patterns of backing.
1-8 bars backing is standard.
9-16 bars backing is playing bass lines.
17-24 bars backing is also playing bass lines.
If you know many chord positions, you will be able to make cool backing part.
So after learning these positions , you can make your own backing!
