Let’s learn classic song called ‘Putting on the ritz’ composed by Ierving Berlin.
Actually i wondered what ‘putting on the ritz’ meant. This means ‘To dress very fancy’
Of course we are going to learn it as gypsy jazz version but Taco’s version is famous. so when you have time, check it out too.
Transcription
on 33rd bar, it’s not easy to hear in the lesson movie so I added tab and audio.
Rhythm guitar backing and chord tabs
Example of Intro
I didn’t add intro but It would be cool to play like this.
You can’t see the chords clearly on the 13th bar, sorry about that.
Em7b5 – Em7b5/Bb
Solo
The first chorus is not that difficult to play but just a little heads up.
This is the tabs of main melody and gypsy jazz guitarists play this with down picking. not Alternate picking.
Tips to play is that you move down your arm , not only the wrist but from your elbow .
This will take time to get used to this picking but you should play like this.
Also at 41st bar , this is going to B section , the chord is Dm but I play D7 lick because next chord is Gm. D7 is Dominant of Gm that’s why you can do this.
At the end of solo, I play like this octave notes. When it’s too fast , I use middle finger to play 1st string notes.
Hope you enjoyed the lesson! There are some more lessons you should check !!
