In this lesson , we are going to learn Minor scales and Arpeggios.<\/p>\n

Gypsy jazz songs in minor keys is easier to make solo gypsy-jazzy and it’s a lot of fun to improvise.<\/p>\n

Before going to the lesson, I will show you common scales and names which I already told you in the previous lesson ‘Major scales and arpeggios’<\/a>.<\/p>\n

scale names<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ionian scale\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb1 2 3 4 5 6 7 (so called ‘Major scale’)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dorian scale\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb1 2 b3 4 5 6 b7\uff08so called ‘ Minor scale’\uff09<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aeolian scale\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7\uff08So called ‘ Minor scale’\uff09<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mixolydian scale\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb1 2 3 4 5 6 b7\uff08so called ‘Dominant scale’\uff09<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phrigian scale\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb1 b2 b3 4 5 b6 b7<\/p>\n

Lydian scale\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb1 2 3 #4 5 6 7<\/p>\n

Locrian scale\u30fb\u30fb\u30fb1 b2 b3 4 b5 b6 b7<\/p>\n

What is a scale?<\/h2>\n

In music theory , a scale is set of musical notes ordered by fundamental frequency or pitch.<\/p>\n

For example , C major scale has no # or b.<\/p>\n

C , D , E , F , G , A , B<\/p>\n

This is called Ionian scale <\/span>which we learnt in the previous lesson.<\/p>\n

What about minor scale?<\/p>\n

C D Eb F G Ab Bb\uff08Aeolian\uff09<\/p>\n

C D Eb F G Ab B (Harmonic minor)<\/p>\n

Minor Scale<\/h2>\n

To be honest, there are lot more scales out there but if you know these 5 scales , you can do lots of things.<\/p>\n

Dorian scale<\/h3>\n

\"Dorian<\/p>\n

Dorian is often used in gypsy jazz because we use m6 chords often and this 6 is not b6 , so this gives you very nice melody.<\/p>\n

Aeolian scale<\/h3>\n

\"Aeolian<\/p>\n

I guess you hear this scale often.<\/p>\n

Harmonic minor scale<\/h3>\n

\"harmonic<\/p>\n

This scale has maj7 means 7th chord is not flat and this fits in gypsy styles of music.<\/p>\n

Melodic minor scale<\/h3>\n

\"melodic<\/p>\n

Hungarian minor scale<\/h3>\n

\"hungarian<\/p>\n

People often think this is gypsy jazz scale and it’s not true but it fits very good. Anyway you often hear this scale in gypsy music general.<\/p>\n

Scale fingerings<\/h3>\n

To know all the scale degrees and all the notes in every keys is important<\/span> , but first of all , you should memorize the fingerings .<\/p>\n

Practice these fingerings from 0 fret to about 15th fret.<\/p>\n
